The Empty Halls drops you into a VHS-style analog horror game that leans hard into the weirdness of liminal spaces.

You know those places that feel off—an empty office at night, a silent parking garage, a dead mall with the lights still on? They’re not supposed to be empty, but for some reason, they are. And it gets under your skin.

I pored over those pages for ideas on how each spot should look, what kind of unsettling tricks to throw in, and how to keep that special mix of the familiar and the deeply weird that Backrooms fans love. Loot & Ledger

Most of the game’s levels take cues straight from the Backrooms wikis floating around online.

You start off with a VHS camera—nothing fancy, just something the shadowy folks at the Backrooms Exploration Company hand over before sending you in. Your job? Step into these warped, abandoned places and record whatever you find. Every odd hallway, every flickering light, every little detail.

Missions come through an old-school VCR system that acts like your main hub. You can watch your taped footage, check off tasks, and get new assignments after you finish the last one. Each tape pulls you further into the mystery.

There’s a lot to see, and honestly, a lot to feel unsettled about. Empty Halls is packed with strange places to explore and plenty of questions that don’t have easy answers. This game is a real passion project, and I can’t wait to share its weird, nostalgic, and downright eerie world with you.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD

Once The The Empty Halls is downloaded, right-click the .zip file and select “Extract to The Empty Halls ”(You’ll need 7-Zip for this, get it here).
Open the The Empty Halls folder and run the exe application.
Have a blast playing! Remember to run the game as administrator. If you get any missing dll errors, check for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the programs in there.
