GAME OVERVIEW
Call of the Elder Gods throws you straight into a cosmic horror adventure rooted in the unsettling stories of H.P. Lovecraft. It’s a psychological puzzle game that digs into grief, forbidden knowledge, and realities way beyond anything we’re built to handle.
You follow Professor Harry Everhart and his student, Evangeline Drayton, as they chase down eerie visions, bizarre dreams, and the strange pull of an artifact they found years ago.
Everything starts going sideways at Miskatonic University. Harry keeps seeing shapes flicker at the corners of his eyes, and Evangeline can’t escape dreams that tie back to that ancient discovery. As they push for answers, their search drags them deeper into secrets older than civilization itself. It’s not just about piecing together clues—they end up facing entities that mess with their minds and challenge what it even means to be alive. Better Than Dead

The gameplay leans hard into environmental storytelling and clever puzzles. Sometimes you play as Harry, sometimes Evangeline, hopping between different places, times, and even dimensions to crack interconnected mysteries. You need to really pay attention—hidden clues, strange symbols, lost records, and snippets of cosmic history are tucked everywhere. Most puzzles unfold in stages, demanding patience and brains, not twitchy reflexes. And if you ever get stuck, there’s a hint system, journal guidance, customizable icons, and difficulty tweaks to make things smoother.
Visually, the game is all over the map. You roam shadowy New England libraries, haunted mansions, blazing red deserts in Australia, icy wastelands, and cities that don’t even exist in regular time. Unreal Engine 5 powers these spaces, making every environment feel massive and unsettling—realistic but twisted, with cosmic touches everywhere. The soundtrack, by Eduardo De La Iglesia, amplifies the mood with haunting orchestral pieces that keep things tense and emotional.
The story pulls directly from Lovecraft’s “The Shadow Out of Time,” tangled up in questions about memory, identity, loss, and the tiny place humans hold in the face of ancient, indifferent powers. Instead of jump scares, the game tightens the tension through discoveries and the creeping sense that not all truths should be revealed.
Everything’s fully voice acted, with Yuri Lowenthal and Cissy Jones anchoring the story. Their performances carry the emotion behind Harry and Evangeline’s search—trying to piece together what happened to the people they loved, and wrestling with the terrifying feeling that something massive and unknowable is always watching, just outside reality.
