Dragonshard™ first dropped back in 2005, but now it’s making a comeback with a polished re-release that actually respects the original.

It’s updated to run smooth on today’s PCs—support for modern resolutions, better save files, fixed physics and timers, plus some under-the-hood tweaks like ASLR compatibility. Basically, it feels cleaner and way less clunky than the old days.

This game is set in Eberron, the legendary DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® universe, and it mixes two worlds in one. On the surface, you’re commanding armies in classic RTS style—building, fighting, and strategizing. But then, the real twist comes when you dive underground with smaller hero-led parties. Down there, it switches into more of an RPG mode, where you’re grinding through dungeons, fighting monsters, and collecting loot. And the best part? Whatever you earn underground—like items, skills, or XP—boosts your army above ground. It is this sick combo of RTS and RPG that really stands out.

You’ll be using magic, weapons, and strategy to lead armies from different races, all battling over the Heart of Siberys, a crazy-powerful artifact that can basically shape the fate of the entire world. Whoever controls it decides whether things go toward salvation or destruction. No pressure, right?

Gameplay-wise, Dragonshard™ has some dope mechanics. You’ve got four types of units—champions, captains, trainable henchmen, and absolute tank juggernauts. Units can actually level up with experience points, so it’s not just spam-building troops, but actually evolving them like in an RPG.

The Nexus System is another cool twist—it’s basically a grid where building placement affects how your units perform, so your base-building strategy actually matters.
