GAME OVERVIEW
Gostomel Heroes isn’t your usual real-time strategy game—it’s actually pretty intense. It tries to capture the early days of the Ukraine conflict, treating the whole thing with a heavy dose of realism and respect for history.
Forget about classic arcade-style mechanics. There aren’t any health bars here. Instead, vehicles get damaged in a much more authentic way, with each shot actually punching through armor, breaking parts, and messing with systems in real time.

On the infantry side, the game digs deep, simulating not just cover, but how exhausted or rattled the soldiers are. Logistics can make or break you. Ammo and gear have to be delivered to the front, and they run out fast. If you let your supply lines get cut off, your units are toast. That means keeping an eye on your flanks and rear, especially when you’re moving big groups around.
The physics system takes destruction seriously—collapsed buildings and piles of debris don’t just look cool, they totally change how the battlefield works. It pays to be careful; the squads and vehicles you manage to keep alive and upgrade stick with you for the whole campaign.
Between missions, you have lots of freedom. You can tweak your battlegroup however you want—swapping out gear for your infantry, rewarding experienced crews, or salvaging enemy tech to fix up for your side. You get access to all the modern tools: drones for scouting, smoke for cover, and artillery for precision strikes, all modeled after what was actually used in 2022.
Right now—April 1, 2026—Gostomel Heroes is getting noticed as a stand-out example of digital war storytelling. It’s got a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, and critics appreciate the fact that the developer really committed to showing the reality of modern conflict, with a seriousness that’s pretty rare in games like this.
