GAME OVERVIEW

Shell of a King is a top-down 2.5D bullet-hell RPG built for people who love tough games and deep worlds. You’re thrown into the ruins of a dying land longing for its old gods, and it’s all the work of one dedicated developer—no AI in sight, just passion and grit.

You kick things off locked away under Agathara, the royal capital. The goal? Fight your way up to daylight. The world sprawls out around you, full of twisting paths and secret routes, kind of like a Metroidvania.

Combat feels tight and punchy, borrowing from both classic bullet-hells and those notoriously tough souls-like games. Controls stay snappy and simple—there’s even a tried-and-true dodge roll. It’s easy to pick up, but don’t expect to breeze through. Mastering the combat is where the real fun (and pain) lies. Clean Up Earth

Toughness comes mostly from the bosses—over 20 of them, ranging from hideous beasts to enormous sentient cubes. Each boss has its own signature style, guaranteed to keep you on your toes.

Along the way, you’ll pick up more than 100 items. Every enemy drops something unique, so the way you play can shift a lot depending on what you find. Want to be a flimsy glass cannon that deals insane damage, or a tank who shrugs off attacks? The leveling and build systems let you choose your own path.

If the game beats you down, don’t worry—there’s a full-on Easy Mode so you can just soak in the story and the cozy hand-drawn mix of 2D and 3D art. Exploration seriously pays off too, with the world brimming with hidden secrets and little puzzles to crack. The choices you make actually matter and can land you in one of three main endings.

And if you’re obsessed with seeing every last bit? New Game+ lets you carry your gear and progress into another run, so you can chase missed bosses or find new twists. By April 2026, Shell of a King had already grown a lively community across Discord and its Wiki, with fans helping each other chart the labyrinth and uncover the deep lore threaded through Agathara.

Once The Shell of a King is downloaded, right-click the .zip file and select “Extract to Shell of a King ”(You’ll need 7-Zip for this, get it here).
Open the Shell of a King folder and run the exe application.
Have a blast playing! Remember to run the game as administrator. If you get any missing dll errors, check for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the programs in there.
