Gloomy Oil: The Executioner throws you right into a twisted take on the Baroque era—think old Europe, but all the haunting weirdness of Zdzisław Beksiński’s art draped over it like a nightmare you can’t shake.
It launched just yesterday, March 24, 2026, and honestly, it’s remarkable that one person managed to pull this off solo.
You play as an executioner, totally fed up with the gallows, who finally bails, only to realize the world’s packed with grotesque monsters and chaos everywhere you turn. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The main challenge here? Surviving. Forget about grinding for levels or stats like in a Souls-style game. Instead, you have to master timing—parrying attacks, sneaking in backstabs, and landing those high-risk, high-reward executions.
There’s no mindless hacking away; every fight feels desperate and calculated. And the mechanics? They lean hard into old-school, tanky controls, just like the early Resident Evil or Silent Hill—slow, heavy, and stressful in all the right ways.
Resource management is a big deal, too. You’ve got an Item Transfer System, so you can craft bullets and herbs from scraps you scrounge up.
Plus, there’s a surprisingly deep Attire System: swapping out hats and outfits isn’t just for looks, but actually affects how you play—period-accurate fashion becomes your tactical edge.
The story bends and twists depending on your choices and what you wear, leading to one of four or more possible endings. You can expect anywhere between five to ten hours of gameplay, and every run feels genuinely different thanks to its mix of survival mechanics and early 18th-century flair.
