Mask of Soul throws you right into a nightmare where the barrier between the underworld and the living has totally broken down. It’s full-on “Oriental Dark Fantasy,” and honestly, it’s pretty haunting.

The game dropped on March 26, 2026—XION Entertainment’s 2D Metroidvania has you playing as Cheong-oh Chasa, this grim gatekeeper tracking down spirits that slipped through the cracks. Picture twisted landscapes under a blood-red moon, all rooted in Korean mythology. You’ll come face-to-face with Yacha, ancient seals, furious demons…the world’s out of balance, and it’s up to you to fix it.

Gameplay centers around a Parry System that’s downright punishing if you don’t nail the timing. Land your counters, and you can unleash brutal ripostes or break an enemy’s Vigor, leaving them wide open. Way of the Hunter 2

It’s not just about skill, though—you’ve got this Mask Switching system where each mask you collect gives you fresh combat moves, abilities, and even lets you traverse the world in new ways. Choosing the right masks is key because the game throws 17 intense bosses at you. They change up their attack patterns, especially under the Red Moon, so you need to master both the mechanics and the rhythm.

Pretty classic Metroidvania vibe. The map opens up as you reclaim lost masks and unlock abilities like dashing or climbing walls. Every region comes with its own twists—environmental puzzles and “gimmicks” force you to swap masks on the fly just to get through.

Visually, Mask of Soul rocks a hand-painted look, with brushstrokes that reinvent Korean traditional patterns in a modern style. It keeps everything feeling surreal and a little unsettling.

It’s out on PC (Steam) and comes with a 10% launch discount until April 9. Sure, there’ve been some bugs—developers quickly apologized for early issues in the demo and release versions. Even so, the game’s sitting at a Mostly Positive rating.

Players dig the “Souls-like” feel and the fresh take on Eastern folklore. Right now, they’re working on optimization for Nintendo Switch and next-gen consoles, so the hunt for escaped Yacha will reach even more players soon.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD

3. Once The Mask of Soul is downloaded, right-click the .zip file and select “Extract to Mask of Soul ”(You’ll need 7-Zip for this, get it here).
4. Open the Mask of Soul folder and run the exe application.
5. Have a blast playing! Remember to run the game as administrator. If you get any missing dll errors, check for a Redist or _CommonRedist folder and install all the programs in there.
